Background information

The family of Alfred HODGKINS had lived in Cowley for several generations. His portrait dates to c.1907.

He managed several public houses, including the Red Lion in Faringdon. He leased the Fox and Hounds (now The Snooty Fox)at Littleworth, near Faringdon, in 1900.

In 1920 Oriel College decided to sell the premises with six acres of land. Alfred purchased it for £1,600 and stayed there until 1924. He then retired to a house in Littleworth and died in 1926.
