Background information

Bessie was the daughter of Septimus HILL, born in 1870 at Crowell and Annie Edith GAY, born in 1868 in London.

She married Walter Frederick DOUGLAS, who was a sailor. They had six children, three of them being triplets who were born while her husband was at sea. It was reported in the Rochester and Gillingham News that she had been granted the King’s Bounty, and was awarded a cheque by the Keeper of the Privy Purse.

The family photo shows Bessie with her brothers Frank and Cecil, and their parents, Septimus and Annie.

She died the 26th of July 1963 in Gillingham.
