Background information
Mary Laura SMALL’s parents were Horace SMALL and Edith Sarah COOMBS. Horace was a farm worker from Bethersden in Kent, and Edith was a house servant. They were married against the wishes of the Small family, and eloped to France where – family tradition has it – Horace looked after the dogs on the Rothschild estates.
Edith Laura SMALL married George REEVES, and they moved away from Oxfordshire. She was five when Queen Victoria died, and had a premonition that the queen’s death had occurred. She later believed she was a “medium” which she gave up after a disturbing experience whilst in a trance. She eventually died in Ipswich, Suffolk.
