Background information

Fred William NEWMAN was christened Fred William and got quite cross when officialdom wrote him down as Frederick. Apart from WW1, he was a gardener all his life. He married Ethel Eleanor BEAMES in 1914 and they had two children. One died aged 9, the other was killed in WW2.

The picture shows him aged over 90, standing by his grandmother’s grave. The BEAMES family group is linked, because Fred’s wife Ethel is the baby on the ground.
