Background information
Clicking on the portrait above takes you to a larger photograph that shows Frederick & Mary TAYLOR of Banbury with their seven sons, all of whom served in the Great War 1914-18. It seems likely that the picture was taken just after the war as the photographer made room in the picture for an insert of Denis TAYLOR, a Lance Corporal in the Ox & Bucks Light Infantry who died of wounds on the Somme battlefield aged 19.
Frederick and Mary lived in Calthorpe Street Banbury. During the war, a shrine was erected outside their house as they had the largest number of sons from Banbury serving in the army (see Banbury & the Great War by Kevin Northover, Prospero Publications, 2003 ISBN 1 899246 50 9).
