Background information

My great grandfather George HINE was born in Headington Quarry, 24 December 1841. The picture, an old tinplate, was probably taken in the late 1840’s when George was about six or seven.

He married Rosanna HEAVENS on 20 March 1864 in, I believe, Headington parish church. Rosanna was born 1831 in Longcot, Berkshire. They produced three children: George William (my grandfather), Annie Elizabeth and Elizabeth Emily.

George’s father was Robert HINE, who was born in South Moreton, Bedfordshire  in 1809 and died in Headington Quarry about 1860. He was married to Mary YOUNG of Binsey, Oxford, in St. James Church, Cowley on 20 February 1837.
