Background information
The image of George and Elizabeth (seen by clicking on his portrait above) is a souvenir photo from their Golden Wedding anniversary, 24 December 1931.
George PRENTICE, born 1856, was the first child of Edward PRENTICE (1827-1893), born at Hornton, and Susannah JARRETT (1835-1919), born at Deddington, Oxfordshire.
In 1861 Edward, Susannah and George were living in Deanshanger, Northamptonshire, adjacent to Edward’s sister Elizabeth and her husband Robert CANVIN. By 1871 the family were back in Bell Street, Hornton. George was by this time aged 14, with siblings Harry (8), Edward (5, my grandfather), Roseanna (3), and Richard (9 months).
The 1881 census shows George and his brother Edward lodging at 56 Buckingham Street, Birmingham, both have the occupation of Packing Case Maker.
In December of that year George married Elizabeth KING, they had 4 sons George Harry, Albert Edward, Frank Richard, and Lewis KING.
The earliest date recorded for the PRENTICE family living at Hornton is 1808.
