Background information
Sarah was just 5 when her father was killed in a fairly horrific manner. By 1858, her mother and sister had cleared off to Twickenham, leaving her to look after the younger brothers. She had 8 children, of whom 7 survived to adulthood, and was a widow for 37 years, dying at the age of 90.
