Background information
William was born to John and Ann KEEN. He married Elizabeth MARSHALL who was from Little Compton. They had a family of ten girls and one boy, with nearly all of them being born in Oxfordshire. It is thought that William had to move around for work because his children were born in several different places.
William’s father, Thomas, died of typhus at the age of 37 in 1847. On the 1851 census, William’s mother was on Parish Relief with four young children.
