Background information

Her parents were John MOLYNEUX and Mary HAWES and she was the youngest of ten children. They probably came to Drayton about 1800 but certainly by 1803.

Her father kept the Catherine Wheel Pub from 1804 and after his death in 1831, his wife carried on, until her death in 1839.

Ann, who had married William TOWNSEND on 29 December 1836, took over the licence and arranged to move the pub from its original premises on the edge of the village beside the River Thames, to the centre of the village.

She had a busy life, rearing her twelve children and running the pub. The first picture show her in a cobbled yard (early 1879) and the second one is an 1888 letter from her brother who had emigrated to Sandusky, Ohio in America.
