Background information
The obituary notice inserted by her daughter in 1904 reads:
‘STEVENS… Catherine, widow of Henry Stevens, and only daughter of the late Stephen Radford, builder, etc., of Charlton-on-Otmoor, aged 76 years. “Her end was peace”.’
After her mother’s death in 1860, Catherine kept house for her father, but against his wishes married one of his employees, a young carpenter. However, Henry STEVENS carried on the business after the death of his father-in-law, in partnership with his friend Frank PULLEN and trading as Stevens & Pullen, well known for their Oxfordshire wagons.
Catherine and Henry had four children.
