Background information
Frederick STOPS was born at Aston Rowant Oxfordshire 1833, son of Abraham STOP and Mary BOWERS. We have actually traced Frederick’s STOPS family several generations further back in Oxfordshire to Abraham STOP of Thame and Mary VARNEY.
Frederick married Emma LOADER in Islington, Middlesex in 1858. Emma was also born in Aston Rowant, Oxfordshire, on 7 August 1835, the daughter of Amy BRITNELL and James LOADER.
Frederick STOPS was a butcher in London along with some of his brothers, but in the 1881 census he was listed as a sugar refiner in Bethnal Green. I have no idea when or under what circumstances the picture was taken but he would appear to be perhaps in his 30s as shown.
Frederick STOPS and Emma LOADER had several children including George William STOPS, my great-grandfather. George William STOPS married Alice READER and emigrated to Montreal, Canada with their family of 6 children in 1905.
