Background information
Minnie HOLLAND was born on
7 November 1880 at Portobello, Shirburn, Oxfordshire and baptised on 23 February 1881 at the Methodist Chapel. Her father was Joseph HOLLAND (Woodman on the estate of the Earl of Macclesfield) born
30 August 1850 at Christmas Common and her mother was Fanny HERBERT, born circa 1851 in Greenfield, Oxfordshire. Joseph died on 8 December 1891 at Portobello when Minnie was 11 years old. Fanny died on 14 or 18 February 1896 when Minnie was 15.
Minnie later became a domestic servant and was working in the home where Hannah GOMME, Albert Edward RACKSTRAW’s foster mother, was housekeeper. Minnie met Albert when he came home on leave from the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and they were married on
25 March 1912. She gave birth to two children, Kathleen May (born 24 April 1913 at Portobello, Watlington, Oxfordshire) and John Stephen (born 14 August 1916 at Knightsbridge Lodge, Oxfordshire).
Albert Edward and Minnie moved to 5 Green Road, Kidlington, Oxfordshire in the 1930s. When Albert Edward died in 1954, Minnie moved to the Alms Houses at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Kidlington, where she lived until her death in 1969 and was buried, next to Albert Edward.
