Background information

Oscar Bernard BEDWIN was born and raised in Chipping Norton. His first job was as a shop boy at the International Stores. At the age of 27, he joined the railway and moved to Birkenhead, Merseyside. Later, he drove trains on Mersey Rail, the Liverpool area’s underground railway service.

Oscar married twice: first to Mary Kathleen DUNN on 10 Jan 1927, soon after his move to Merseyside. Sadly, she died on 13 May 1928, only 16 months after their marriage. Nearly four-and-a-half years later, Oscar married Dorothy HOGAN (b. 1899 Birkenhead, d. 14 July 1998 Birkenhead) at St Werburgh’s Church, Birkenhead, on 26 October 1932.

Oscar died on 20 January 1988, aged nearly 90.
