Background information

Thomas Binfield LUDLOW was the son of Stephen LUDLOW who was born in Iffley , 13 January 1799 (d. 1874) and then lived in St Aldates Street, Oxford; grandson of William LUDLOW (27 January 1768 -
4 February 1852) who was a publican at Rosehill; and the great-grandson of William LUDLOW, who was of Garsington
but not born there, who married Mary HEYBOURN at Stokenchurch on
5 January 1761.

Thomas was educated at Abingdon  and when he left school went to Christ Church to become a servitor and later a vicar. He was Rector of Blyborough on the 1891 census and ended his days as Rector in Wolverton, near Basingstoke, where he is buried. He was the last of our branch to live in Oxford  but many other relatives stayed in Iffley as boat builders and licensed victuallers.

He married late in life on 20 June 1860 to a minor, Maria LLOYD, who was born
2 August 1843 in Westminster. They moved to Cheltenham and their first daughter was born there. Later twins Thomas and John were born in Worcester on 12 October 1864 from which our line has come. Thomas junior died suddenly when he was 16, just before the 1881 census.

Thomas helped people in Ireland in the famines and was given a silver teapot engraved with the thanks.

My name is Margaret LUDLOW and am married to Thomas’s great-grandson, Michael Charles James LUDLOW.

I have been searching to find out where William LUDLOW of Garsington was born, so if any one can shed some light I would love to here from them!
