Background information

William Albert BEAMES, my father, was born in 1895 at Ramsden and was an architect/surveyor.  He married (1) 1920 Hilda Lilian LAVERS (c.1899-1924, died of TB);  (2) c.1928 Florence Kathleen FALLET (1901-44, died of liver disease); (3) 1949 Ruby Florence SMITH (1918 - still alive). He died in 1954.

The portrait was taken at his 3rd wedding.  He was sometimes mistaken for Winston  Churchill.

William saw active service in both wars and was a p-o-w in WW1.  After his first wife died, he went to Borneo (oil).  He met my mother on a boat (she was teaching in India) and married her in Singapore.  They returned to England for children - I’m the only survivor of 3.

William’s father is standing at the centre back of the BEAMES family group photo.
