Background information

George was my maternal great-grandfather, he had one brother and five sisters.

Although shown on the census as a labourer, my mother always said that he was a painter and decorator. He and Mary raised five boys and two girls in their small Bridge Cottage home. Several of the sons were in the Whitchurch Fire Brigade and later two of the elder boys went to seek their fortunes in Australia where they did very well.
