Background information

Mary was my maternal great grandmother, she had 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Before marrying George PAINTER in 1876 she was in service to a family called NEWMAN who lived on Whitchurch Hill. She and George lived at Bridge cottages, Whitchurch where they raised 7 children, my grandfather Harry was the 4th child.

After George’s death Mary went to live with her youngest daughter Edith at the Whitchurch School House. Mary died in either a nursing home or hospital at Henley in 1942.
