Background information
Rose BOWLER daughter of John BOWLER and Mary Ann YEATES, was born in Crowell on 30 October 1880. By 1901 Rose was a servant living in Reigate, Surrey and it is here that she met and married her husband George Edwin TICKNER, on 6 January 1909. Prior to this she had a son Henry, father unknown, who was brought up by her parents. Rose remained in service all her working life and she and George had four daughters, including my mother Ethel Mabel TICKNER – the youngest.
George died in 1941 and Rose lived alone until her mother came to join her in Redhill within a few years. Later Rose married Frank CHARD, early in 1956. Soon Rose became very ill and moved to Hampshire to live with her daughter. She died there on 27 October 1957. Rose was buried in Redhill Cemetery. The picture of Rose with her mother Mary Ann YEATES must have been taken around 1947/8.
