Background information

William Thomas MORRIS was born 4 September 1883 at Wheatley, Oxon, the eldest son of Augustus MORRIS and his wife Elizabeth, née MESSENGER. In 1898 he moved with his family to Holton Lodge, later known as 1 Park View, Holton. He attended Wheatley School and left two months before his 12th birthday to work on the Shotover Estate.

He married Esther Mary WEBB of Holton/Great Milton at Headington Registry Office on 23 June 1906. They had three children: Wilfred George (b. 1906 Forest Hill, bp. Holton); Violet Dorothy (b. St John’s Wood, London, bp. Holton); Jack (b. St John’s Wood, London).

In 1907, married with one child and unable to progress on an agricultural labourer’s wage, he moved with his wife to London to join the Metropolitan Police. he left behind his first born son with his parents in Holton.

William Thomas died 13 December 1967 at 4 Gordon Avenue, Stanmore, Middlesex and he was buried at Harrow Wield in that county.
