Background information
Annie was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Herbert WALNE. The family moved from London to Garsington, Oxfordshire, between 1881 and 1890. With a background as a brewer's shipping clerk, George became baker and postmaster at Garsington.
Annie married Alfred George CLINKARD (1865-1923) at St Mary's, Garsington, Oxon,
7 April 1890. Anne Herbert Clinkard (née Walne) kept the second forename Herbert as part of a tradition on her mother's side of the family to keep alive the memory of Captain Edward Herbert (Royal Navy c.1755-1820), her great grandfather.
With Alfred she had seven children: Dorothy G, Florence, Ethel, Alfred (younger), Hilda, Violet and Elsie.
